The ‘Chinese zodiac’ symbolism is considered auspicious and is hugely popular in Singapore. Prima Deli, a local bakery in Singapore wanted to add a set of cakes depicting the Chinese zodiac cycle to their product range. Thus the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac were illustrated. The style was derived from the ancient art of Chinese paper cutting and combined with loral motifs. The illustration was then given a modern pastel colour palette representing different exotic flavours. The result was interesting an design, pleasing to the eye. The cakes were mainly ordered for birthdays or anniversaries (corresponding to the individuals zodiac sign) or Lunar New Year celebrations.
